    San Francisco, the City

San Francisco--home of the stunning Golden Gate Bridge, colorful Victorian architecture, dramatic hills, and bayside views. It's no wonder it is the city everyone wants to visit. Exquisite dining (some of the country's best, in fact), exciting cultural and entertainment attractions, and proximity to Northern California's most popular weekend destinations, also make San Francisco the perfect place to live and work.

One of the Sutter network's largest acute care hospitals is in the city of San Francisco.

    California Pacific Medical Center

With 3 campuses, 1,254 licensed acute care beds and 25 residential beds, California Pacific Medical Center is one of the largest private, non-profit academic medical centers in California. Serving more than 200,000 patients annually, CPMC provides a variety of services including: acute hospital care, a full range of post-acute care, home care and hospice services, outpatient medical care, and preventive, complementary and educational services. The medical center also provides professional education and basic biomedical, clinical and behavioral research through the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute.

    St. Luke's Hospital

St. Luke's Hospital serves all of San Francisco, but primarily residents from the Mission District, Bernal Heights, Bayview Hunters Point, Excelsior, Ingleside, Glen Park and Noe Valley neighborhoods. Many of St. Luke's Hospital's over 1100 employees, grew up in the neighborhood and continue to live in San Francisco. St. Luke's employees are reflective of the multi-ethnic neighborhoods we serve and speak over 30 languages.

St. Luke's commitment to providing excellent patient care includes ongoing facility improvements. All of the original structures were ruined in the 1906 earthquake, and currently, the oldest building, which houses the chapel, short stay unit and administrative offices, dates back to 1912. The main tower opened in 1970, and has a 260-bed capacity. Some recent remodeling and facility improvements have included: an addition of a state-of-the-art Outpatient Surgery Center (SOMA), a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and updated X-Ray and Mammography equipment.

St. Luke's rich past also includes a nursing school which for nearly a century, until 1988, offered hospital based nurses training. Many graduates of the School of Nursing continue to work at St. Luke's Hospital today and are a testament to St. Luke's Hospital's mission.
